kinda got sidetracked in the sunglasses forum but with Kenny Perry and John Daly losing weight and their game now and then, i was wondering if some of you have lost a significant amount of weight and how it has affected your game. good, bad, long or short term. i know LyinLewis and RGainforth have lost a considerable amount of weight and congrats to them for doing that. how has the change in your body helped or hurt your current game as opposed to how you played before and what adjustments have you had to make?

I have lost 20pds and I see a signigficant difference in my footprints on the green. No more fixing my impressions.

On a serious note, I am way more flexable wich causes me to get to quick with my hands. That equals DUCK HOOK.. So the positive result is, I have slowed down my tempo, and I am much more consistant on my yardages with my sticks. I am longer off the tee box than previously, and with my belly being smaller, I am able to drop my hands down straighter on my putts. I used to have them under my chest, vs. under my belly button. My putter shaft would be locked into my belly.. Not any more. All in all, I am a better golfer with the 20pds. gone. My next goal is to get the 140pds. off my back when I golf---my fiance!

I went from 300lbs to 260-265 and had the same problems. Way more flexible and hitting a wicked hook. Tempo didn't help, I had to rebuild my swing, including drastically shortening my backswing. I'm just as long off the tee and I'm way more consistent. I'm hitting a cut now as a result and hitting tons of fairways.

What about lessons? Were you taking them during this period? I want to take them, but am in the process of dropping tonnage. While I would benefit, I also am a cheap SOB and am wondering if it's more economical to wait.

No lessons.. worked it all out on the range. I am cheap also. KISS--keep it simple stupid.

Went back to a low and slow back swing to keep from going back to steep.
Kept my left arm completely stiff, didn't allow it to break, or hinge the wrist.
50% stroke and poke on the down swing.. Kept doing this until I felt square impact with hands and hips in unison. Slowly increase my down swing tempo little by little until I was swinging 100%. I still take my back swing back low and slow, with a wide stance.

All of this with a club laying on the ground to make sure I was square to target. I didn't need to pay someone to tell me something I already knew was wrong. Luckily my efforts worked. If my efforts had not worked, I would of maybe solicited some advice from a pro, or eat more..

Too young to give you a personal example. However last week's winner Carl Petterson tried losing weight in 2009 and thus played so badly he decided to put the weight back on so he could play better. And look what happened. He won.

Good post, I was wondering how this might affect myself if I was to drop about 20 lbs. I know the person who comes to my mind that lost a ton of weight on the tour and was never the same was David Duval. I think he had other health issues as well, but I do remember the drastic weight loss he had.

I think you pretty much have to change your swing if you want to hit it well after your body changes.

I've gone from 254 to 210 in last 4 months (weight, not score o_O)......also gone from a single plane swing to conventional swing to stack and tilt.

I also had a bit of a hook, but i worked it out...i have a ton more power off the tee but for some reason, i've lost alot of control in my irons (pushing right), but i'm working that out too...biggest change tho is I really enjoy walking the course as opposed to riding in the cart (at least until summer came).

I lost 30 pounds over the winter and picked up 20 yards on my driver and 15 yards on every iron. Plus I look better in pink pants.
