18 year old Bobby Wyatt from Mobile, AL shot a 14 under par 57 today in the Alabama Golf Association Junior Championship. Bobby's nines were 26-31=57 at the Country Club of Mobile. Bobby is either the number 1 or 2 ranked junior in the country and will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall. So if you think you are getting good, try this on for size. I was there for some of the day watching a student of mine. My student shot 69 only to be beat by 12 on the day. I arrived as Bobby hit it to 8 feet on #9 to shoot a nine under 26. He then birdied 10 and 11, made par on 12, and birdied 13 to go to 12 under thru 13 holes. He then birdied 16 and 17 coming in to finish at 57. I think the Alabama coach has to be excited. While that's more than discouraging for me to here it's obvious Alabama has a homegrown sports star for the first time in state history.

57?? Waow, this is really amazing... What's the lowest score ever shot in a tournament? I thought it was 59...

57?? Waow, this is really amazing... What's the lowest score ever shot in a tournament? I thought it was 59... There is one 55 known to have been posted, and it was posted by a golfer you might have heard of: Homero Blancas. Blancas played on the PGA Tour in the 1960s and 1970s, and later on the Champions Tour. In 1962, when he was an amateur and playing in the Premier Invitational, in Longview, Texas, Blancas put together a front nine of 27 and a back nine of 28 for a round of 55. He had 13 birdies and one eagle, and used only 20 putts. The golf course where Blancas' 55 was posted no longer exists |

The course that junior shot 57 on is 6,600 yards or so ... so that round's pretty legit. 6,600 isn't long, but it's also not like he was playing a 5,700-yard course. oh ... here it is: par-71, 6,628-yard |

57?? Waow, this is really amazing... What's the lowest score ever shot in a tournament? I thought it was 59... Lowest ever round in on a major tour was earlier this year by Ryo Ishikawa on the Japan Golf Tour with 58. |

It also sounds like he is a pretty humble kid from the interview. It is an impressive round and now let's hear how he is the future Tiger Woods!

While that's more than discouraging for me to here it's obvious Alabama has a homegrown sports star for the first time in state history. Yeah, those other Alabama homegrown sports stars like Joe Louis, Cornelius Bennett, Paul "Bear" Bryant, Hubert Green, Mia Hamm, John Hannah, Bo Jackson, Steve Lowrey, Willie McCovey, Jesse Owens, Satchel Paige, Kenny Stabler, Bart Starr, and Willie Mays would likely disagree with you. |

Sorry guys but the South is my least favorite part of the country. Below Colorado and as west as Louisiana and east as Alabama I am afraid to step foot in that part of the country. The Southern accents and lifesyle drive me insane. To be perfectly honest I am scared to death to go to Missassipi. I make fun of that state's obesity and the fact that they have one of the poorest school educations in the country. I'll take the nothern part of my country any day of the week over the South.
